Some diets are part of the diet pantheon, while others are unhealthy, weird or simply dangerous. Just because a diet has been around a long time doesn’t mean it’s not bad news bears, so rather than subjecting yourself to God-knows-what, eat healthfully and exercise. We at SlendHer don’t condone any diet, rather we believe in making healthy diet choices that provide you with plenty of energy and nourishment! Check out a few of the worst diets in the world, some of which will definitely make you squirm!
The Candy Diet: Chocolate Pills That Suppress Your Appetite
If you’re thinking, “That sounds ridiculous,” you’re right. The Candy Diet came out in the late ’70s and early ’80s and featured Ayds Appetite Suppressant Candy that came in a variety of flavors. Pronounced “aids,” the candy fell out of favor following the first AIDs epidemic, and was eventually taken off store shelves entirely. It turns out the candy featured phenylpropanolamine (PPA) as an appetite suppressant, which is only available in prescription form now as it can cause strokes in women. Not cool.
The Tape Worm Diet: Yeah, You Read That Right
[adrotate banner=”26″]If you haven’t heard of this diet already, prepare to throw up in your mouth. The Tape Worm Diet has unfortunately been around since the early 20th century and involves eating a tape worm, which keeps you from frequently chowing down as it absorbs nutrients in the intestine, making you feel less hungry. Once you reach your goal weight you take a pill to kill the worm. It’s illegal to buy the worms in the U.S., and the side effects are horrendous. They can include brain and nervous system damage, digestive blockages, organ function disruption, and, um, death. This is not a diet, but rather a way to ruin your life.
The Master Cleanse Diet: Beyoncé Did It, But You Shouldn’t
Also called the Lemonade Diet, Beyoncé admitted to using Master Cleanse to drop weight for Dreamgirls. She said the diet made her “evil,” and it’s not hard to see why: this liquid diet is a concoction of water, lemonade or lime juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. Developed in 1976, you drink the mixture six to 12 times daily. Sure, you’ll lose weight, but you’re depriving your body of essential nutrients. Plus you’ll be miserable and spend your life in the bathroom. How unpleasant.
The Baby Food Diet: Was This Created As Part Of A ‘World’s Dumbest Diet’ Competition?
Developed by celebrity trainer Tracey Anderson, who perhaps felt there weren’t enough dumb diets in the world, this one involves consuming up to 14 jars of baby food daily before enjoying a “real” dinner if you want. Baby food is low in calories, so it makes sense that you would lose weight on this diet. However, you’re also eating food made for BABIES, and you’re a FULL-GROWN ADULT. By that logic, we would all still be drinking breast milk. The diet has unsurprisingly been criticized for its lack of nutrients. It also supposedly increases the chances of binging, which is not shocking.
The Cookie Diet: Certainly One of the Worst Diets in the World
Any diet that requires you to eat mainly one thing is going to be a disaster, and the Cookie Diet is no exception. Eat six cookies per day as created by Sanford Siegel, MD., and then eat dinner. The cookies contain appetite-suppressing ingredients such as rice, whole wheat flower and oats, and some feature meat protein. Gross. You’ll consume 800 to 1,000 calories per day on this diet, but will probably be longing for real food by Day Two.
There are many other bad diets out there. Since diets generally involve deprivation, it’s better to simply watch what you eat, make healthful choices, and exercise!
